How to Fix Laptop Keyboard Keys Not-Working

1. Some of the keys from laptop keyboard are not working, such as e, i, o, p, q, r, u, w keys are not working in my laptop keyboard. Help me to correct this issue. Or you have a problem with the keyboard on the laptop: the following keys do not work:3,e,d,c, etc and these keys are diagonally in a row.

2. Wrong characters appear when typing; Onscreen messages do not appear when pressing multimedia keys; Setting a multimedia button produces an illegal operation error message; ultimedia keyboard buttons not working; Internet keyboard buttons not working; Sticking keys and like these.

Solution: Try Multiple Methods

First Method: The most common problem when faced with a non-working keyboard is an improper connection. Try reconnecting your keyboard, restart your computer and see if that fixes it. Your keyboard connector may have been loosened. Keyboards use a matrix to determine if a key has been pressed to they get a signal on a column and on a row. A, encoder chip interprets the signals and send out the equivalent ASCII code. If the encoder is on your motherboard board and not the keyboard module, then the cable could have been partially pulled out, disabling a column or two of keys.

Second Method: Make sure the key is not working in more than one application. Some keys such as the function keys F1 through F12 will not work with every program. An easy way to test this is to open notepad or other word processing program and trying the key.If not all keys are working in all programs make sure it’s not just a glitch by first rebooting the computer. If this doesn’t resolve the issue and you’re using Microsoft Windows try the keyboard in Safe Mode. Information about getting into Safe Mode can be found on document CHSFAFE.

Third Method: If you are using a multi-media type keyboard, then delete the software before installing any new drivers for this type of keyboard. Install the updated driver for the manufactures web site, then re-install the keyboard software. If any software updates or patches are available for your multi-media keyboard, install them at this time. Delete the keyboard software by using Add/Remove Programs (Start>> Control Panel>> Add/Remove Programs). If you receive a prompt asking if you would like to remove all shared files, answer “No to all”. Then click OK.

Fourth Method: Try to clean your keyboard. Remove the key from the keyboard and clean it. In some situations like dirt, hair, dust, etc. can obstruct keys causing them not to work. Additional information about cleaning and removing keyboard keys can be found on Papatek Knowledge.

Fifth Method: If none of the above methods resolves your keyboard problem, it is likely that your keyboard is bad and it is recommend to replace a new one.

Note:
Just be careful when you’re dealing with laptops since they are very delicate machines. Replacing the keyboard will give you a new microcontroller and circuit board, so you should be good to go!

  10. I have the same problem, with same exact letters, which leads me to believe this has more to do with a change in some setting. Right before those keys stopped working I had a pop up box come on the screen that quickly went away as I continued typing.
