Personal Computer Processors

Personal Computer processor is the most important part of your PC.

You will now dig into the personal computer parts. You will start from Processor. What is a processor? The first question that it will come to your mind. Well processor is the CPU. What is a CPU? CPU is the abbreviation for Central Processing Unit. Processor is sometimes referred as the ‘Brain of computer’. It is also called the ‘Little man’ in the computer. You have now idea about processor. You could say it is the heart of the computer.
How does a processor looks like? You will notice there are two competitor in manufacturing processors. They are Intel and AMD. See the image below to be familiarize with the CPU. What does a processor is doing inside our PC? You don’t know for the meantime, but after this blog you will have skills and knowledge about processor.

Intel Processor

Processor job is to carry out instructions at shortest possible time. If you still remember from my last blog, these instructions are in the form of binary numbers. There are instructions for math applications. You already learned how to convert decimal number system to binary number system. There are also instructions for word processing. A good example is If you are typing a letter using your favorite word processor Microsoft Word. Those letters you are typing to the keyboard are processed by the CPU. The letters are converted into instructions and it manipulate the data you are passing to the system and then later on print it to the screen, save it to your hard disk, burn it to the CD ROM, etc. Now all these activities you’re doing to your personal computer is equivalent to instructions. All these are handled by the processor.
AMD Processor

One important architecture of a processor are the registers. They are labeled as AX, BX, CX and DX. They are similar to working tables. Instead of working on one working table these additional features boost the speed of our PC. The line or wire that connect the CPU to the outside word is what we called “bus”. Bus in a sense that it feeds and receive data in and out of the personal computer processor.
